I build the server-side code that handles business logic, data processing, and integrations. Whether it's a custom CMS, a membership platform, a WordPress site, or a busy API, the code has to be clean, tested, and easy for the next developer to work on.
Most of what makes a website useful happens on the server, and that's where I spend most of my time. I build the logic that processes applications, takes payments, talks to other systems, and keeps your data straight when hundreds of people use the site at once.
I've written backend code for national associations with large membership databases, ecommerce stores taking payments every day, and content systems that non-technical staff run on their own. The stack depends on the job: PHP with Laravel or CodeIgniter when a project needs structure and room to grow, WordPress when a client wants to edit content without calling a developer, and Node.js when something has to react in real time.
Backend work I take on
That includes custom content management systems built around your workflow, membership and subscription platforms with renewals and payments built in, and APIs that feed mobile apps and third-party tools. Background jobs and queues handle the slow work after someone clicks submit, so the page never hangs. The code is documented and tested, so it still makes sense to the next person who opens it.
If you've inherited a slow or fragile backend from a previous developer, I take on rescue work too. I'll audit what's there, tell you what's worth keeping, and rebuild the parts that aren't.
