I build the server-side code that handles business logic, data processing, and integrations. Whether it is a custom CMS, membership platform, WordPress site, or high-traffic API, the code needs to be clean, testable, and built to last.
Most of what makes a website genuinely useful happens on the server, out of sight. That is where I spend the bulk of my time. I build the logic that processes applications, moves money, talks to other systems, and keeps your data straight when hundreds of people hit the site at once.
I have written backend code for national associations running large membership databases, ecommerce stores taking payments every day, and content systems that non-technical staff manage on their own. The stack depends on the job. PHP with Laravel or CodeIgniter when a project needs structure and room to grow, WordPress when a client wants to edit content without calling a developer, and Node.js when something has to react in real time.
Backend work I take on
Custom content management systems built around your workflow instead of forcing you into someone else's. Membership and subscription platforms with renewals and payments wired in. APIs that feed mobile apps and third-party tools. Background jobs and queues that handle the heavy lifting after a user clicks submit, so the page never hangs. And the unglamorous but critical part: code that is documented, testable, and still makes sense to the next person who opens it.
Inherited a slow or fragile backend from a previous developer? I take on rescue work too. I will audit what is there, tell you honestly what is worth keeping, and rebuild the parts that are not.
What this includes
- PHP (Laravel, CodeIgniter, WordPress) for structured, maintainable development
- Node.js for event-driven and real-time applications
- RESTful API design with authentication and versioning
- Queue systems, cron jobs, and background task processing
- Third-party integrations like payment gateways, CRMs, and email providers
